On a recent trip to Iceland, we visited the Krafla volcano, where I saw this sign. I’ve never visited a place where the ground can burn your boots right off. We stayed on the marked trails, but it was shortly thereafter that I noticed that the soles on my boots were starting to starting to come apart (a few days later they could completely disintegrate).
I took a picture of this sign because I thought it was one of those iconic images of Iceland.
